This is a review from 2 visits to Pho Hien Vuong. We come here frequently to try their food and they always have met our expectation of great food.
There are many good Vietnamese restaurants in the Triad. Pho Hien Vuong stands out as one of the best if not the best in the Greensboro area. The interior is very pleasing to the eye and all of the food we have had at Pho Hien Vuong has been outstanding. The large crowd of Asians (as well as Americans) who frequent this restaurant show that it serves good authentic Vietnamese food.
We have been to this restaurant many times. Some of my favorites are the Pho, the pork ribs ( Suon Kho To cubes of pork ribs stewed in a pot with traditional Vietnamese caramel sauce). I have tried several of the Thai dishes. Most were OK, but Thai restaurants are typically better. Pho Hien Vuong excels in their Vietnamese dishes.
If you have never tried Vietnamese cuisine, then start with one of the Pho. Phở is pronounced more like 'phaa'. No O. Phở has its origin in French cooking, the french pot-au-feu. Pho is a Vietnamese soup made of beef or chicken stock with rice noodles and thin slices of meat. The important part of a good Phở is the broth.
On our first visit, we had the Pho Hien Vuong's Curried Beef.
Pho Hien Vuong's Beef Curry was beef cooked with bamboo shoots and onion in a red coconut curry. This is one of their Thai Dishes. The currey was not spicy, but there was plenty of pepper sauces to choose from at the table to heat things up if desired. The flavor profile was well balanced between the coconut milk and the curry.
We also had the Tofu Pho
Pho Hien Vuong defintely excels in the broth in their Pho. Great meaty notes with just the anise, ginger and maybe a hint of cloves. Very tasty. The bowl was more than enough for 2. They will serve smaller portions if you ask.
On another visit, we had more great food. This time, we had the Fried Spring Roll. Served fresh and hot from the fryer. Crispy with good flavor.
I also had Pho Hien Vuong's Salted Braised Pork Spare Ribs. This is my favorite dish here. Cross cut bit sized ribs simmered in a caramelized sugar, soy, and fish sauce. Really a wonderful combination. The sauce was a well balance of sweet, salty, savory fish and caramelized notes. The small bite sized rib pieces easily pick up this wonderful sauce. This is a must try dish!
Next on the second visit was Pho Hien Vuong's Street Noodle Stir Fry. Vermicelli noodles with veggies and fish sauce. Another well-done dish!
If you are in the Greensboro area and have a craving for some Pho or any other Vietnamese dish look up Pho Hien Vuong and try some of their excellent food
