Taste of Asia is one of many Sushi restaurants in the very crowded category of Japanese/Sushi restaurants in the Triad area.  This is a very difficult category for a restaurant to stand out in.  Taste of Asia is located in a small strip center located very close to Full Kee and Carter Brothers Restaurants.  The name Taste of Asia implies it is a general Asian restaurant that may have several cuisines.  However, the restaurant is Japanese.

The interior is clean with  normal western tables as well as a row of Japanese Pit tables (sit on the floor, but your legs are below the table in a pit). Japanese feel of sitting on the floor with the west comfort of not sitting on your legs.  The interior is pleasant with an Asian theme with lots of bamboos and Asian art.

The servers were attentive and extremely friendly and they gave me the great recommendation of trying the Beef  Tataki which was the best dish I had tonight.

The menu is extensive.  The typical Hibachi, Tempura, Noodle, Teriyaki, Sushi and Sashimi were all available.  The Sushi roll list was extensive.

Tonight I tried several of their appetizers

I started off with the Deep Fried Shrimp Gyoza.  The flavor of the filling was a bit bland and the shrimp was a tad bit fishy.  The sauce was very good and without the dipping sauce, the dish would have been a waste of no flavor.

I had the Bam Bam Chicken.  This was a plate of lightly fried chicken lightly topped with the typical Japanese white sauce with a touch of sesame oil and a typical Japanese brown savory sauce.  I was expecting something with a bit more flavor and heat with a name like Bam Bam.  It was freshly fried, but not overly exciting.

I had Taste of Asia's Beef Tataki.  Without a doubt, this was the best dish served tonight.  This was a plate of rare seared beef, thinly  sliced and served with a vinegar, citrus, soy, and pepper sauce.  The meat is served cold.  The combination of the cool rare seared beef with the sour and pepper notes was fantastic.  Great Dish!

Last was a plate of rolls

We had Taste of Asia's Gogu Roll which was Shrimp Tempura, Avocado, cream cheese and cucumber topped with Smoked Salmon and spicy mayo sauce.

The roll was beautifully made, however, the flavor was a bit bland and one bite was extremely fishy on the inside.

Overall Taste of Asia is fairly typical of the Japanese Restaurants in the area.
