The first Thai Corner Kitchen located on High Point Road has been my favorite Thai Restaurant for several years now.  When I heard they were opening up a new restaurant on Battleground I was excited as the Battleground location is much closer.  The food at the original restaurant has always been fantastic and the service excellent.  The building and the decor of the original Thai Corner Kitchen was not the best.

I was a little disappointed to find out the new Thai Corner Kitchen on Battleground was a new format.  More of a quick serve / self-serve format with the food being served on paper plates with plastic utensils.  If you do go to Thailand, this is the most common format you see on the streets of Bangkok.  I was hoping for a full-service version with the same great food and a more modern physical building.

Upon entering, you will see a large menu that you can select your food.  Order and pay and the food is freshly prepared in the open kitchen.  You pickup your food when your number is called.  Plastic forks and spoons are picked up in a fast food type format.

The restaurant is new and much more modern than the original Thai Corner Kitchen and a full-service format would have made this restaurant match the quality of the food that you get.

Thai Corner Kitchen - Battleground Food

I spent about 3 weeks in Thailand in Bangkok, Koh Yoh Yai and Phuket and tried many of the foods.  One of my favorites is Pad Thai and I did have this dish many times.  I typically get this as one of my "judge the Thai Food" dishes.  Many restaurants have a flavorless sauce that is sweet and orange and miss the tamarind, lime and fish sauce notes that must come through.  Thai Corner Kitchen did a fairly good job of being authentic.  For my tastes the dish needed more fish sauce and lime, but that is easy to fix with the pepper plate.

Overall, Thai Corner Kitchen's Pad Thai was much better than most Thai Restaurants in the area.

Next, we had Thai Corner Kitchen's Eggplant Delight with Chicken

Fresh Chinese Eggplant with scallions, onions, peppers and roasted chili sauce.

This dish had fantastic flavor and it is another example of a dish served at Thai Corner Kitchen that you don't see often.  My wife felt this was the best Thai dish she has ever had.  It really was delicious!

For the food, I highly recommend both of Thai Corner Kitchen locations.  The new Battleground location has a more modern appearance, but hopefully, they upgrade to a full-service restaurant with dishes and flatware.
