Greensboro is slowing becoming a city with a good selection of international restaurants.  Now we can add Peruvian Food to the list. Simauchi is the only Peruvian restaurant in the Greensboro area (at least that I am aware of).  I love the fact that we can now sample food from so many different cultures right here in the Triad!

Simauchi Peruvian

Simauchi is a very new restaurant located next to  Jerusalem Market off of High Point Road.  It is a very small and simple restaurant where you order your food at the counter and the kitchen will bring you your meal.  Unfortunately,  the food is served on paper plates with plastic forks and spoons.    It is a new restaurant and hopefully, they upgrade their service ware to real  plates and real forks.  I really hate it when your cheap plastic fork breaks in two while eating.  This did actually happen during this meal.  Being new, the restaurant is spotlessly clean.  The decor is very basic with a few booths on one side and tables on the other.  The walls have a bit of Peruvian art, but over all a bright clean simple restaurant.

Rating a restaurant like this is a bit difficult.  There really is no service as you order at the counter.  The food is unique as it is the ONLY Peruvian Restaurant around.  To top it off, Peruvian food is fairly simple. So the low marks for service and ambiance are due to Simauchi being more of a self-service restaurant.  The staff was friendly and helpful.

The reason to come is the food!  Peruvian food is a fairly simple food that many picky non-ethnic food eaters could enjoy.  The menu has many exotic sounding names, but when you read the descriptions, the food is not that far off from many US foods.

During our visit we had.

Simauchi's Lomo Saltado.  This is a steak sauteed with red onion, tomato, soy sauce served over french fries topped with fresh cilantro.    I have to admit, I was a bit shocked to see french fries, but this is a authentic and popular Peruvian dish that has French Fries! The dish was flavorful and plentiful.  I would think even most picky eaters would find this dish tasty.

Next, we had Simauchi's Pollo A La Brasa.  Seasoned Rotisserie Chicken with a choice of sides. This is another very popular dish in Peru.  It is chicken seasoned with soy sauce garlic and other spices cook on a rotisserie.  It is also known as blackened chicken in Peru.  This is another large portion of food.  1/2 a chicken served with a two sides and a green sauce.  The green sauce is a green chili aji sauce or ground hot green chilis in mayonnaise.  If you are not fond of hot sauces, you may want to skip the green sauce.  If you are a fan like I am, you may want to ask for a second serving!  The chicken was flavorful but a bit dry which is fairly common with rotisserie chicken.

Overall, the experience as Simauchi Peruvian Restaurant was good and I would definitely go back to try the Papa Rellenas, Arroz Chaufa, Chupe De Camarones and more.   If you have never tried Peruvian Food, you should go

I think Peruvian food can be an excellent choice for those who are adventurous with food all the way to those who are not.  This is a style of food that many will enjoy. your social media marketing partner
