Masala India Restaurant is a very small restaurant that is under new ownership since about September of 2015.  Over the years, the restaurant has changed hands and each time there are small improvements.   The decor has improved over the years and it is starting to look much better than the stark decor from 6 years ago.

The interior is clean and bright with nicely set tables.  This restaurant is typically not overly busy so it is a great place for a quiet dinner.  I would add this to the list of hidden gems in our area that surprisingly are not much more busy as they do everything right. The food of Masala is Indian Style. Indian style food has many different subsets which are all very similar such as Egyptian, Middle Eastern, Indian (can vary from regions) and this style of food continues to Pakistan and even Afganistan.  This is a HUGE area and you will find differences.  Masala is a Halal restaurant and thus is most likely a Pakistani or Middle Eastern. The main difference is the presence of meat dishes, no alcohol and slight differences and recipes.  Indian food seems to be the up and coming flavor as there seems to be a lot of new Indian restaurants opening in the Triad lately. Masala's India Restaurant food is fantastic and I feel it is one of the better Indian Restaurants in the  area.   If you like Indian Food or like to experience very different flavors you should give Masala a try. Tonight we started with Masala India Restaurant's  Aloo Tikki.  Fried Potato patties.  The patties were freshly fried and came with the various chutneys.  However, they were a bit dry.  Most likely pre-prepared and left uncovered a bit too long in the refrigerator before they were fried.  Otherwise, they were tasty.

With Indian food, I feel it is mandatory to order some Naan.  We had an order of Garlic Naan.  Freshly baked in a tandoor oven.  The bread was delicious.

Next, we had Masala India Restaurant's Shrimp Dopiaza.

Dopiaza is a South Asian curry dish  that is a staple of Hyderabad India. It is shrimp in a spicy red herbal sauce with onions peppers.  I asked for this dish to be spicy.  It was spicy.  Full of flavor and heat. Dopiaza means 2 onions so there are lots of onions added 2 times, so some are well cooked and others are crisper.  This dish was true to type and very delicious. This is a wonderful dish that you do not see often in Indian Restaurants.  Only order spicy if you really like hot foods otherwise go for Medium.

The last dish we had tonight was the Chicken Korma.  Tender chicken chunks in a creamy yogurt sauce with spices and nuts.

Masala did an excellent job with this too.  The sauce was a bit thinner than other restaurants but just as tasty. The sauce was fantastic.  Creamy with lots of balanced flavors of India.
